An experienced educator, with over 32 years of service to the NYC Department of Education, Elsa has held multiple roles, including principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. Throughout her career, she demonstrated a passion for ensuring that all students, including multilingual learners, have equitable access to rigorous curricular programs and instructional practices aimed at improving academic outcomes. A guiding principle throughout her career has been that in order to support students in reaching their full potential, it is essential that educators honor the linguistic and cultural heritage of students and families. At both the school and district level, she has coached and supported teacher and building leaders in the implementation of innovative and culturally relevant programs for multilingual learners. In addition to receiving multiple awards for outstanding leadership, Elsa was also accepted to the Cahn Fellows Program for Distinguished Principals at Columbia University and has presented at multiple local and nationwide conferences including at the ASCD conference, Council of the Great City Schools, NYS 50th TESOL Conference, NYSABE and NABE.
