Lilly Narine Lucas was formerly from the DoE and left that post in September 2021 after 33 years. Her career with the BoE/DoE began as a School Secretary. She then became a teacher of Special Education and worked on the elementary, middle school, high school, and GED levels as a Self-Contained, Resource Room and Integrated Co-Teaching Teacher.
Her administrative career began as an Instructional Support Specialist in Region 3 Queens, servicing elementary and middle schools, collaborating with administrators, providing Professional Development and as a monitor for NYS exams. Mrs. Lucas then served as a high school Assistant Principal of Organization and Assistant Principal of Supervision. She is a proud ALPAP graduate and often served as a panelist. She became the Principal of Excelsior Preparatory High School in 2010 and served for eleven years. Mrs. Lucas received various awards in recognition of her leadership within her school community and beyond, including a Proclamation from the NY City Council.
Mrs. Lucas studied Business Administration for two years at Pace University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Child Psychology and Education from the College of New Rochelle. She holds a Master of Science in Special Education, a Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages) and a graduate certificate in Educational Assessment from Adelphi University. She obtained her School Administration and School District Administration degree from Queens College. She prides herself on embracing various cultures, and promoting her educational philosophy of diversity, equity, and inclusion for all.
