Mimi Fortunato has served as an elementary school teacher, a founding teacher of the first educational-option themed HS in NYC, middle school director, a HS Assistant Principal, Vice President of Development for Edison Learning, a HS Principal and as a Director of Principal Performance/School Quality for the NYC Office of School Quality and as Affinity Schools Assistant Superintendent. As the Assistant Superintendent, Mimi had the opportunity to directly apply her extensive K-12 experience in providing targeted support to forty-six Urban Assembly and CUNY secondary and high schools across seventeen districts and four boroughs.
Following her retirement from the NYCDOE in 2019, Mimi founded Leaderworks, LLC. In 2020, Mimi joined the Office of School Design as a School Design Coach, reviewing new and re-imagined school proposals and supporting Imagine NYC school teams in embracing identified challenges as a call to action and an opportunity to collaboratively design innovative approaches that address disproportionality and inequities, expand reciprocal partnerships with families and community-based organizations and authentically engage each student.
