Raj Nanda worked as a teacher, Assistant Principal, and Educational Administrator in New York City for 35 years. After serving as a High School Assistant Principal for 25 years, he worked with the Civics For All program in the NYC Department of Education’s Division of Teaching and Learning, where he developed curriculum, facilitated workshops, and supported Elementary, Middle, and High Schools to implement civics education and participatory budgeting. His work was aligned with CRSE, SEL, and Advanced Literacies. Raj has led professional development programs on interdisciplinary education with the American Social History Project (CUNY), served as the Lead Content Trainer for NYC Distributed Regents Scoring, and developed workshops for new supervisors for the NYC DOE. He has served as an educational consultant with the College Board, NYC DOE Office of Assessment, NYC Opera, the Office of Assessment at the NY State Education Department and various NYC museums. He has served as a coach with the Teaching Fellows Program and has worked with Student Teachers from Columbia, NYU, Pace, Fordham, and Hunter. He has participated in programs with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, National Endowment for the Humanities, Woodrow Wilson History Quest (Institute of Play), Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute, and various TAH (Teaching American History) grants. Raj completed his K-12 education in the NYC Public Schools and earned his Undergraduate and Master’s degrees from the University of Chicago. He is a graduate of Hunter College’s ADSUP program and has lived in India and Brazil.
