Thomas DeGrazia

Tom DeGrazia is currently serving as mentor for supervisors enrolled in The Executive Leadership Institute(ELI).He began his work in education as a teacher and a staff developer in various NYC schools covering the pre K-12 spectrum. After many years of serving as a model teacher in the Bronx NY; Mr.DeGrazia worked as a assistant principal in a middle school for 4 years followed by 19 years as a principal in both elementary and middle schools in NYC. Mr.DeGrazia was selected by the NYC Office of School Leadership to be a fellow with the Cahn Fellows Leadership Program(Class of 2005) through Columbia University!He was also selected by the Office of School Leadership to be a member with 9 other principal’s(20014-2016) in a study group sponsored by The Wallace Foundation.This selected group was part of of a larger National Consortium of over 50 other school leaders.The consortium of school leaders researched and looked at the most crucial attributes/characteristics of excellent school leadership!This work was also presented as part of a TV documentary and research study(book) by the author Jody Spiro.The concept that principals needed steady and focused ongoing professional development was one of the ideas developed here that was a catalyst for change in the DOE on greater support for NYC DOE school leaders then in the past! Mr.DeGrazia as a mentor withELI is continuously looking at ways to better support and develop strong school leaders.The support offered is based on solid research based principals and practices!
